>> Starting at midnight EST, 60 bands were announced as part of the line up for the 2012 Bamboozle Festival in Asbury Park, NJ. Bon Jovi, Foo Fighters, blink 182, Incubus, Mac Miller, and Skrillex had already been added to what is sure to be a phenomenal line up. Now you can see which bands are playing which of the three days of the Bamboozle Festival in the photo below. Three day wristbands for the festival are available now.

>> We're 17 days into the new year, and I have some explaining to do. I didn't post much of anything in December, and I've missed the first half of January. There's a list reasons for the lack of my usual enthusiasm over the past few months. As readers of this site, you have a right to know what's been going on lately.

>> In September, I started my first semester at NYU. I moved into Manhattan right near Washington Square Park and various great music venues. Everything I ever wanted was now in walking distance. From then on, my nights were spent at concerts, with friends, and of course, studying. I had to get used to the idea of balancing this increased amount of both work and potential distractions. If I don't go to shows, I don't have anything to write about. But it got to a point where I had to focus on my school work more than I'm used to. I did well in my classes, but in turn, my site was left without updates. Midterms were new to me, and between those, reading assignments, essays, and eventually finals, I had less time to dedicate to my writing.

>> Now that I have a semester under my belt, I plan on getting my act together. Instead of catching up on shows through Hulu, I'm going to spend my spare time wisely. I plan on making 2012 count. Expect plenty of tour dates and music videos as usual, but more importantly, my goal is to post more interviews, album reviews, and things of substance. I want to do more *real* writing and reporting other than just "Guess who's touring again! Here are the dates..."

>> Over the past few months, I really disappointed myself, and I'm sure some of you as well. Between the academics and even a couple of trips out-of-state, I had a lot to juggle. From here on out, I'm working on my consistency and posting things of true substance.

>> So here's to doing big things in 2012! Hopefully you guys will continue to watch (and help) my self-run website grow :)

2012 Bamboozle Headliners Announced

>> The first details for the 2012 Bamboozle Festival have been announced! This year, the festival is going back to its roots and will take place in Asbury Park, NJ rather than at The Meadowlands in East Rutherford. The festival is also happening later than usual. Rather than the first weekend in May, The Bamboozle is set for May 18th - 20th.
>> Bon Jovi, Foo Fighters, and Blink 182 have been confirmed as the festival's headliners this year. Bamboozle's founder, John D, still has plenty of surprises in store. Here's a portion of his most recent tumblr post:

There is so much i would like to share with you about Bamboozle 2012. I’m just as anxious to tell you all, as you all are for me to tell you. But, fortunately, i’m a kid at heart and i have to have fun doing so. Clues, hints, challenges and team work all lie ahead for you in the next few months. >> On Sunday October 9th 2011, a pop-punk trio by the name of Super Prime took the stage at The Studio @ Webster Hall in New York City. After their energetic performance, I had the chance to speak with Adam (vox / guitar) and Marcus (drums). The interview went on for about 25 minutes, so I split it into three parts. In part one, the guys talk about the band, their background, line-up changes, and their emphasis on the question "If not now, when?" In part two, they discuss the big picture for Super Prime, including how they keep a realistic perspective and found a method that works for them. Part three goes into detail about what's next for Super Prime. This is where you can hear about the band's upcoming shows, their full length LP, as well as other dreams and plans. Valencia Call It Quits

>> Valencia have called it quits, for now at least. The band announced their hiatus yesterday (October 11th) on their website, stating that the members would be releasing new music individually while keeping open the possibility of a reunion in the future. The announcement also provided details of Valencia's final show, a goodbye for now, to take place in late December. The band's official statement can be seen below.

Valencia originally came together back in 2003. Most of us were still just in high school, but we all had gotten to know each other through the tightly knit music community we grew up in around Philadelphia. We started this band because of a mutual need to create something heartfelt and to give everyone a message we needed to share. We all felt like music would be the most significant part of our lives, but never in our wildest dreams could we have predicted the things we’d get to do, or more importantly, the people we would meet because of this band and the songs we wrote and shared with the world.

We started touring full time in late 2004, thanks to everyone at I Surrender Records putting faith in our band and releasing our first record. Ever since then, we’ve given everything we had to our music. We’ve been touring nonstop since then, playing shows in 46 states and five different countries over seven years, all of them places we were brought to thanks to people that believed in what we had to say.

This band started when we were teenagers, and now, as we enter our mid-to-late twenties, we’ve decided that it’s time for us to scale back our time on the road and explore the other elements of life that are not as easily accessible while touring full time. We aren’t considering this our band breaking up, because if that was the case, this situation would feel very final, and it doesn’t feel that way to us. It remains natural for us to write music together and there is always a possibility that we will release new music as Valencia sometime in the future. In the meantime, new music will be written and released by each of us and when that happens, we will let you know.

In honor of starting this next chapter, please join us on December 28th, 2011 for one last show in our hometown of Philadelphia, at the Electric Factory. We hope you’ll be there with us to share one of the most personal, memorable, and important nights of our lives. Thank you all for everything - the letters, the tattoos, the years of listening, for so many countless, priceless sentiments - there’s no way we could ever fully express our gratitude for everything you’ve done for us. We’ve been given the chance to go down a path not many are able to take, and because you’ve had our backs through the story that is our band, we’re able to continue that journey through whatever comes next for us.

I hate to use such a lame excuse, but it's the truth. I'm getting better with it, I promise. Even though the updates have been few and far between lately, I have been keeping up with the latest music news and going to as many shows as possible. I have a ton of show reviews to post for you guys, but I'll just leave you with these gems for now:

>> On Saturday September 17th, I was able to see This Love, Jonas Sees In Color, and This Condition at Ollie's Point in Amityville, NY. It was a great show, everyone seemed to have a great time. After the show, I got a chance to talk to Joe McFaddin, lead singer of This Love. I had to split the interview into two parts, but you can watch them both below. The interview was filmed by Kyle Gorry of Bellwether outside of the venue shortly after the last band finished. It's pretty dark but you can hear what Joe is saying, and I think that's the most important part. I also have another video from that night which I will upload as soon as possible. Since we formed Pierce The Veil, we have had the strong mindset of “progress or die.” We feel that if we don’t keep pushing ourselves to do new things and get better at what we do, then there is no point in doing it. Update + Interviews From Warped Tour

>> Hey guys! I haven't posted in a couple of days, and there's actually a good reason for that. I attended the Vans Warped Tour on 7/23/11 in Uniondale, NY. The next night (7/24), I saw Hit The Lights, With The Punches, This Condition, Bellwether, & others at Ollie's Point. These were two incredible, time consuming, and energy draining events. I have no regrets about attending, in fact those were two of the best days I've had in a long time. However, I do feel bad about the frequency (or lack thereof) of my updates on here as a result.

>> I still have to finish my reviews of both events, but yesterday I did finish uploading my interviews from Warped Tour. I had the chance to talk to members of The Wonder Years, Enter Shikari, Go Radio, D.R.U.G.S., Moving Mountains, and Shiragirl. That's 3 times the amount of interviews I did last year, and I couldn't be happier with the way they all turned out. >> I also have plenty of videos from the Hit The Lights show, including one of HTL performing a brand new song. This video has actually been featured on AltPress.com and several other music news sites, so it's about time I actually post it on my own website. Keep in mind that the quality of these videos isn't the greatest because I was so close to the stage, but even with such poor quality, you should be able to tell how incredible the new Hit The Lights song is. I was honestly blown away, and I absolutely cannot wait to hear more from this band. Album Review: Self Titled EP by New County

>> New County will release their new Self Titled EP on July 12th. Based on their previous release, 2010's Lives We Lead, this new EP is definitely something to look forward to.
For fans of: Big Time Rush, The Summer Set, The Cab

>> The EP starts out strong with "Open Up To Me." This song just screams summer - it's fun, upbeat, and a great addition to any party playlist. "She Can't Keep Away" sounds like something you would hear from The Cab. It's catchy, and the vocals are virtually flawless, especially towards the end of the track. The band slows things down a bit with "Go," but this song is far from boring. New County takes this opportunity to embrace the fact that they are a boy band, and in doing so create the most emotionally charged track on the EP. It's somewhat reminiscent of Big Time Rush, but with a kick of something only New County could create.

>> The band begins to pick up the tempo with "It's A Shame" featuring Rebekah White. (You can view the lyric video for the song here.) The piano and female vocals in the beginning of this song help to accent the obvious passion and feeling that went into writing it. The energy picks up almost immediately, making it likely to get stuck in your head. "Same Side" is by far the sweetest song on this EP. Making this song the last track was a wonderful decision because once it's over, you'll want to listen to the whole thing again and again.

>> With this EP, New County successfully redefine the term boy band. They manage to provide everything you could ever want from a pop album while also maintaining a sound that is purely New County. Overall, this EP is something the band should be proud of, and something listeners will want to have on repeat.

Interview: Nifty Breed

Nifty Breed provides a breath of fresh air in a society so obsessed with what's on the radio. I'm willing to bet even those of us who strive to know as many "unknown" artists as possible have missed this band. Now's your chance to see what you've been missing. With influences like Nirvana and a sound like no other, Nifty Breed are ready to hit the studio and get the recognition they deserve.

Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
As a band, some of our biggest musical influences are Silverchair, Nirvana, 311, At the Drive-In, Incubus and a wide array of other musical acts of various genres.

How long has your band been together?
This line up of Nifty Breed has been together for about 3 years but the band under this name has been around a bit longer than that. This was due to line up changes and whatnot.

Who named the band? Is there a story behind the name?
I guess I (Matty) named the band. I was thinking about what to change the name to from the previous name and one day I thought about how when every kid is younger they want to start a club called something like the Cool Kids Club. Never really mattered if the kids were cool or not back then because it usually just consisted of friends. Well, by way of thesaurus, I found a synonym for cool was "nifty" and a synonym for kids was "breed" and I just put the two together. The idea was kind of a goof but I mentioned it to Brian (our bassist) and he said "It doesn't suck!" so we picked that name and it was finalized when we ordered stickers (which we still have for free!)

What sets your music apart from everything else out there?
A lot of bands out there now usually find a style that works and stick to it. Musically we strive to be diverse. We try not to make every song sound similar, something which I feel a large amount of bands have been doing lately. As much as we try to maintain melody, we can also be pretty heavy, so there is this blend of catchiness and heaviness in some of our songs that can appeal to various types of people. Basically, to expect certain music from us is not wise because we are constantly experimenting and trying out new styles and sounds.

Do you have a specific method or process when it comes to writing?
It used to be that I (Matty) would come in to practices with complete songs written and we would just work them out for live shows. But, as of late, we have been combining ideas at practices to formulate the songs and it has been working out really well. I'll come in with a basic concept and everyone else will show me things that might fit with that original idea or someone else will have the original idea. Basically we all contribute ideas and piece them together to make the songs. Collaboration has proven very beneficial to us as a band.

What are some of the obstacles you have faced so far as a band?
The biggest obstacle, even now, is shows. Here on Long Island, it is really hard for a band to get noticed because a lot of places aren't doing business the right way. For us, we aren't really into pay to play which has become a big practice around here, so we try to avoid that as much as possible, but that counts out a decent amount of shows and venues we can play. We work around it the best we can and so far we've been able to get pretty good gigs. But the music scene out here has basically become a "It's who you know" kind of deal. Also, getting a record out has been tough. We had to get the right line up together before we could even consider a record and now that we have that, we just had to find the right place and have the right songs and everything. Now we have all of the songs and we are recording our debut full length album at Killingsworth Recording Company in Farmingdale, NY with some good guys so hopefully everyone likes the record because it's been a long time coming.

What motivates you to keep going when times get tough?
A good show can really pull us out of a funk. That and writing a really great new song that you love. We've definitely had tough times before but good shows and great new songs really make the difference. They make you look at your band and realize why you keep going.

What are some goals you want to accomplish with your music?
We really just want as many people to hear it as possible. We're not looking for fame or fans worldwide or anything, we just want a lot of people to hear us and hopefully those people will like it. I think our one true goal, as is the case with most bands, is that we can make this a full time thing. If we could live off of this band we'd be happy campers.

What are your plans for the summer?
As I mentioned before we are about to record in August. That album should be killer and I hope everyone who wants it buys a copy. We're really proud of the songs we've got written for it. As for shows, we have nothing too big officially booked but please keep an eye out on the facebook page (www.facebook.com/niftybreed) for show announcements and whatnot. I check and update the page constantly so that is the best resource for information. But our main summer plans are getting this record done.

What is your favorite part about being in this band?
I think my favorite part of being in this band is how I've seen it grown. There were so many line up changes, name changes and different songs through the years, I was afraid things wouldn't work out. This was before Nifty Breed, as I've been personally trying to keep a band together since I was 11. But even this line up has evolved from a group of guys having a good time to a band of serious musicians who want to see this band make something of itself. I couldn't be happier about that.

Is there anything else you want to say?
Just that if people listen to Nifty Breed and like it, please tell your friends! The best way to promote a band is by word of mouth. So if you like the tunes, grab a friend and show us to them and maybe they might like us and show us to a friend of theirs and so on and so forth. Just pay it forward!

Jordan, our drummer, will sometimes ask the audience to request a drum solo so he can play one. They rarely request one, but it is hilarious to hear him try and get them to!

As a band we usually hang out after practice. Get lunch and just goof around. Band adventures are usually loads of fun, so we'll drive off somewhere for food or go to a music store together or something. Just hang out.

To anyone who hasn't heard, we unfortunately had to cancel our UK tour due to immigration not allowing us in the country. We are extremely sorry and apologize to everyone who was planning on coming out. No one is more bummed out on this than us. We love you all and deeply appreciate the continued support!

Sunday night the five of us boarded a plane to the UK excited for our first international tour, playing slam dunk, and finally getting to meet all of the cool UK kids who we’ve talked to via the internet in the last few years. We got there, headed for customs, got pulled aside, detained for several hours then put back on a plane and sent back home to NY. Tour cancelled, hearts broken, and sleep patterns destroyed. I’m not bitching, just wanted everyone to know how much this sucks for us to not get to play these shows for you guys. We’ll be back, and we’ll actually make it out of the airport next time. Sorry.

>> In honor of the Honda Civic Tour's 10th Anniversary, Blink-182 have announced that they will co-headline the tour this year with My Chemical Romance. Supporting acts include Matt & Kim, Rancid, and Manchester Orchestra.

“It’s great to be going back out on the Honda Civic Tour,” Mark Hoppus of blink-182 said in a statement. “We had a blast kicking off the tour ten years ago, and this summer we’ll be taking it to the next level with our friends My Chemical Romance.”
