Free Music from Tweet For A Track, The Dangerous Summer, & more

>> tweetforatrack.com (@tweetforatrack) is one of my favorite music-related websites, and for a very good reason. Through the site, bands can allow fans to download one of their songs for free in exchange for a twitter update. I've downloaded several songs from the site, and it's really a great way for people to find new music, and of course it helps to spread the word about each band. Right now, you can get "No Excuses" by Attack Attack!, "We Owe This To Ourselves" by Anberlin, "Good Times" by Christofer Drew, "Teenage Dream (Cover)" by The Great Valley, "New Strings For Love Songs" by I Am Villain, and so many more. All you have to do it tweet about it.

>> You can download The Dangerous Summer’s newest single “Good Things” now on Amazon.com.

>> Madina Lake have released their new song "Hey Superstar" as a free download on their Bandcamp page.

Video Killed The Radio Star - 10/29/10

>> The people over at Fearless Records released a trailer for the upcoming Punk Goes Pop 3 compilation, which can be seen below. The album will be available in-stores and online November 2nd. You can pre-order the album now through iTunes and MerchNow.

>> Katy Perry recently released a video for her latest single, "Fireworks," which can be seen below.

>> A video of Lights performing her new single, called "My Boots", can be seen below.

>> I See Stars premiered their video for "The Common Hours" last week. Watch it below if you haven't already.

Throwback Thursday - 10/28/10

>>I Wanna Rock” by Twisted Sister

> From the album Stay Hungry, released in 1984.
> The band also released Under The Blade, Love Is For Suckers, and several 'Greatest Hits' albums. Twisted Sister faced problems after the release of 1985's Come Out and Play, and eventually split in 1987. They got back together later on, and now conduct annual "Twisted Christmas" shows after releasing an album of the same title in 2006. The band will be unable to perform a Christmas show this year, but will instead be playing a handful of shows in Brazil, Chile, Argentina, and Bolivia through the end of the year.

>> Say My Name” by Destiny's Child

> From the album The Writing's On the Wall, released in 1999.
> This song, and the video as well, received a lot of attention when they were released. The song won awards at the 2001 Grammy Awards as well as an MTV Video Music Award. This video caused some drama for the group. Although LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson sing parts on the track, neither of the two was featured in the music video. Taking their place were Farrah Franklin and Michelle Williams, who replaced the other two women as official members of Destiny's Child. There was eventually a lawsuit as a result of this replacement, and there were other line-up changes as the years went by. Eventually, the final three members of Destiny's Child were Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams. Before parting ways to pursue solo careers, these three women went on to release several remix EPs, and Destiny Fulfilled (2004). Finally, Destiny's Child released #1's, a greatest hits album in 2005 featuring this, and other popular songs such as "Independent Women Part. 1", "Soldier", "Survivor", "Lose My Breath", and more.

Throwback Thursday - 10/14/10

>> Most people know about Music Monday and Follow Friday, two things that happen each week on Twitter. I participate in both of these, but I wanted to do something else- something original. Sometime last week I thought of Throwback Thursday, and I decided to go through with it since people seemed to like the idea. So here we are! What I plan on doing is posting 2 songs each Thursday: One from the 60's, 70's, or 80's that people should know, and another from the 90's or early 2000's that should make everyone say "OH YEAH I remember that song!" I'll give a little background on the song, including the year it was released, and what the band/artist is doing today. Let's see how well this works out!

>> #ThrowbackThursday - “Your Love” by The Outfield

> From the album Play Deep, released in 1985
> The Outfield went on to release Bangin’ (1986), Super Hits (1998), Any Time Now (2006), and more. Since then, the song has been covered by several artists including (2009), Pull The PinBon Iver (2008), and Katy Perry (2007). Wyclef Jean & Eve covered and remixed it for the 50 First Dates soundtrack (2005). I See Stars even covered it for Punk Goes Classic Rock (2010). Overall, this song is a classic.

>> #ThrowbackThursday - “Last Resort” by Papa Roach

> From the album Infest, released in 2000.
> Since then, the band has released 5 albums including Getting Away With Murder (2004), Metamorphosis (2009), and most recently Time For Annihilation: On the Record and On the Road (2010). Lead singer Jacoby Shaddix once hosted the MTV show “Scarred”, which premiered in 2007. Shaddix had to stop hosting the show due to his band’s touring schedule. Today, Papa Roach continues to tour around the world.

Interview: Seth & Zakk

>> On July 29th, I went to a show to see my friends in Phone Calls From Home. Out of the other bands playing that night, all were local bands I've known for a while except for one. The other act performing that night was Seth & Zakk. Just from talking to one of them before the show, I knew that their set would be worth watching. I was right. Seth & Zakk are two talented and fun loving musicians that everyone should have the privilege of meeting at least once. Rather than doing things the usual way, the guys decided to answer my questions in a video. It's unique, somewhat awkward, and definitely worth watching... just like their live performances :)

Interview: Brighterside

>> Brighterside has a very impressive list of accomplishments so far, especially considering the fact that they've only been playing together for a few months. They have already played with several bands I support, such as Cartel, Down With Webster, Let's Get It, and more. They have received endorsements from SJC Custom Drums and Stereo Bear Clothing, among others. They've even played on the Vans Warped Tour and had a featured interview with Substream Music Press. Although they are a new band, Brighterside is clearly going places. Listen to a few songs and you'll see why. Thanks to Tyler for answering these questions.

Introduce yourselves.
Cameron, 20, vocals; Garrett, 19, guitar; Tyler, 17, bass; Mark, 19, drums.

What are some of your earliest memories that made you want to get into music?

I, personally, have always been surrounded by music in one way or another. My grandfather got me into the beach boys and the Beatles when i was about four years old and I've been obsessed with music ever since.

Who are some of your biggest influences?

We're all into bands like The Rocket Summer, Parachute, and Third Eye Blind.

How long has the band been together?

We started playing together in April, but Cameron and Garrett have been making music together for years.

Who named the band? Is there a meaning behind the name you chose?

Garrett and Cameron named the band, back in 2008 when the idea of Brighterside came to be. All you hear about in the news is the bad stuff. We like to think that no matter how bad things get, you can always look on the bright side.

If you met someone who had never heard your music, what would you say to make them want to listen to it?

We'd probably ask them what kind of music they're into, tell them what bands we're into, and if they still aren't sold on the idea, we'd probably offer them some sort of bribe.

What do you consider your biggest accomplishment so far as a band?

We've done a lot of cool stuff since we started in April. We were fortunate enough to play on the Vans Warped Tour this summer and that was a great time. But every show is an accomplishment and we love hanging out with fans, so come see us!

What are some of your goals for the band?

We hope to start touring full time next year. The goal so far has been to be able to support ourselves on the road, doing this full time, we're hoping to achieve that sooner than later!

Do you have any shows coming up?

Yes! November 13th we are doing a CD Release show at the Middle East in Boston, MA. It's gonna be a great night with tons of surprises so come hang out!

I really love your new song “Holding On.” What was the inspiration behind it?

Holding On is about being with a girl that you really like and having to deal with her going away to college and still trying to make it work and worrying about whether or not it will work out in the long run.

Who would you love to tour with someday?

We would love to tour with The Rocket Summer or Parachute. Either one would be insane!

How do you guys find new music to listen to?
We all usually depend on each other for new music. But I'm always on absolute punk and purevolume and will listen to whatever they tell me is good, haha.

What have you been listening to a lot lately?
We've all been listening to Parachute's "Losing Sleep". It's a great album and you should definitely check it out!

What are your plans for the rest of 2010?
Right now, we're locked up in the practice space writing tons of new music. We'll be in the studio for the entire month of December recording our first Full Length record!

How can fans get in touch with you, or listen to your music?

You can follow us all on twitter! @Cameronside @GarrettTheKid @TylerReardon @HeyMarkyside. Or you can add us on Facebook! We love new friends and we'll always talk to you on facebook chat if we can!

Is there anything else you want to say?
We just want to thank The Music Obsession for the interview! Check out our new EP, A Way With Words on October 26th!

RIP The Friday Night Boys

>> 2010 has been a year full of bands breaking up and going on "hiatus." The Friday Night Boys (@fridaynightboys) are the latest addition to the list of bands that have split up. Vocalist Andrew Goldstein released the following statement through the Fueled By Ramen tumblr page:

The Friday Night Boys Break Up
After three and a half years as band, The Friday Night Boys are officially splitting up. Many of you know that things don’t always go the way they are originally planned, but it is a decision we all agreed upon. However, I would like to take note of the positive experiences we had as a band, as well as with fans and friends.
We would like to thank all of the people that took the time to listen to our music, come to our shows, buy our merch, and talk to us. You all made flying down a highway at 4am pounding red bulls in a puttering old van much easier and enjoyable. Especially those of you who saw us time and time again all over the country. It was an honor to see your familiar faces whenever and where ever we showed up. The lovely FNB fans brought us all the Cheez Its, cookies, cupcakes and gummy worms we could eat! I think I’m good on those foods for a few years at least. So thank you.
We were able to live our dreams because of you. We would also like to thank our label, managers, friends, other bands, and family for being so supportive and helping us in every way.
So what’s next? Chris will be releasing solo material that you all should check out. Mike is releasing a project called Time Travel, and the first show is November 2nd at the Ottobar. Robby will be performing with him as well as working in a congressman’s office and playing music in other capacities. I currently do not have plans of releasing a solo project or playing in a band anytime soon, however, I am writing and producing for other artists and bands. I’ll let you all know what’s up on Twitter.
We would like to offer special prices for everyone to pick up our remaining merch. Head to The Fueled By Ramen Webstore to get t-shirts for $5 and hoodies for $15 through October 18th. We will also give out an autographed copy of “Off The Deep End” to a random customer each day during the sale! Thank you all for the support you have given us over the years!

Kelsey Trades "Chaos" for a Bright Future

>> Earlier today, Kelsey from Kelsey and The Chaos posted an announcement on Twitter stating that she has "decided to take [her] life and music in a different direction." You can see the entire statement below, or by clicking here.
Trading Chaos for a Bright Future:

To all of the BEST and most BAD ASS human beings living on this planet (that would be our amazing fans). I wanted to let you know that after 2.5 years, a lot of fun, some great tours and a whole lot of chaos I have decided to take my life and music in a different direction. The band (the chaos!) have gone to pursue other things for right now. Some of them are attending college, some pursuing other musical projects. I've always been a big fan of pop music, everything from the Jackson 5 to of course Gwen Stefani, P!nk, Madonna and so on. Over the last year I pulled KATC more in that direction as evident with our latest song, "Life Goes On". However, it would be my mistake not to realize that although KATC was a lot of fun, it's not the right vehicle for my pursuit of pop music. I am very excited to tell you that this is not the end but only the beginning of the journey! With the departure from the chaos I will now be recording new music, playing and touring starting late this year under the name Kelsey! In the future, the chaos may get together and play a show or record some music- who knows, but for now I will be doing Kelsey minus the chaos! In the coming weeks I will have some new music for you to hear and I really would like your feedback and support. It's a little
scary being a young girl out on my own now and I'll need my friends and fans support to make this happen. Please write to me and stay in touch I want to hear from ALL of you!

I love you all so much!
Kelsey

*Updated 10/2/10:

>> Kelsey has now posted a video discussing plans for her solo career. Watch it below.

>> Nick Rotunno, the drummer of Kelsey and the Chaos, has posted his feelings on the matter. You can view his statement below, or by clicking here.
moving on from the chaos
Now that the announcement has been publicly made of Kelsey breaking away from The Chaos, I feel that it would be unfair to our friends and fans if I did not lay the project to rest as well.
Finding out Kelsey was ready to move on without the band was a very tough pill to swallow, after having just come off of our most successful tour yet. Our future was bright, and I think we all had the highest of aspirations for the band.
Unfortunately, when members of the same band don’t see eye to eye on where the band should go next, there is bound to be trouble. As Kelsey said, she is in the market for extreme pop music, which in most cases does not require live drums, bass, guitar, etc. It also doesn’t leave room for us to collaborate with her on writing, as our instruments are not as important as they once were to our sound.
That being said, Corey, Tyler and I are all on to great things. Corey (@coreychenzo) will be continuing to play music, Tyler (@tylerlyons) is currently studying at University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and I (@nickrotunno) am moving on to a new chapter of my life as well. All of you have changed our lives and we hope that our friendships we have made will follow us throughout our lives and musical careers.
I wish Kelsey the best, and you may even see one or all of the chaos playing shows with her sometime in the future.
All and all, I thank each and every one of you for ever listening, loving, hating, or indifference to anything we ever did. To anyone who came to a show, bought merch, illegally downloaded our music, facebooked us, you have made our lives and the existence of our band that much better. We would have not gotten to where we did without your support. Eternally, thank you.
-Nick Rotunno
