Throwback Thursday - 11/4/10

> "Sweet Child O' Mine" was the band's third single from this, their debut album. When interviewed in 1988, bassist Duff McKagan had this to say about the song:

"It was probably the hardest song for me and Steve to record, just because you have to keep a steadiness and also keep the emotion in it. /../ The thing about 'Sweet Child,' it was written in five minutes. It was one of those songs, only three chords. You know that guitar lick Slash does at the beginning? It was kinda like a joke because we thought, 'What is this song? It's gonna be nothin', it'll be filler on the record.' And except that vocal-wise, it's very sweet and sincere, Slash was fuckin' around when he first wrote that lick."

From here, the band went on to release several albums, such as Use Your Illusion in 1991, Guns N' Roses: Greatest Hits (which includes "Sweet Child O' Mine") in 2004, and Chinese Democracy in 2008. Guns N' Roses continues to tour, and recently completed a series of shows in Europe.

> In 2009, this song was featured on the Good Charlotte edition of iTunes Essentials, which is basically a compilation of the band's greatest hits. The band also released Good Charlotte (the band's self-titled debut album) in 2000, The Chronicles of Life and Death in 2004, and Good Morning Revival in 2007. Their latest album, Cardiology, hit stores a mere two days ago*. Good Charlotte was on this year's Bamboozle Roadshow, featuring other bands such as Simple Plan, Third Eye Blind, Forever The Sickest Kids, All Time Low, and more. This past July, founding members Benji and Joel Madden sat down with Mike Shea of Alternative Press. You can download this 2 hour interview for free in the form of a podcast. Good Charlotte will be touring through Europe in early 2011.
