News, News, News: Twitter, Rocket, & Bamboozle

>> Twitter is my new obsession. I thought it was bad when I got a Facebook, but nooo. I don't think I've gone more than an hour or two without checking fer updates. I added a handy "Follow Me On Twitter" function to my site, it's right under the "About Me" crap. Also, I found the Twitteriffic app for my iPod Touch, so now I'm basically just feeding my addiction. It's kind of sickening. Wanna follow me? Go for it.

>> CLICK, Read, LOVEEEEEEE. A Rocket To The Moon is coming out with a FULL LENGTH ALBUM ?! I can't wait. No, really.. I wish I could see them on the AP Tour, but the date closest to me is on a Tuesday. Like that's gonna work out.. no fairr. The AP Tour features Rocket, 3OH!3, Hit The Lights, The Maine, and Family Force 5. AP stands for Alternative Press, my FAVORITEEEE magazine. The next issue, coming out March 3, has 4 covers. The ones featuring 3OH!3, The Maine, and Family Forcce 5 will be available in stores, while the fourth featuring the singers from all of the bands is exclusively available to subscribers. SCOREEEEE. Concerning the tour, I reeeaaaaallyy want to go; It looks epic. At least I've got Bamboozle.



>>Speaking of, that picture I posted about a week ago was the latest update on the Bamboozle site. It split the bands! In normal person language, this means that rather than just listing which bands are playing, they're being listed based on which of the two dates they're playing. For example, Fall Out Boy and All Time Low, among many others, are playing on the Saturday date (May 2nd) and are therefore listed on the left side of the picture. No Doubt, The Used, and Taking Back Sunday are playing the Sunday date (May 3rd) and are on the right side. Everyone probably got that the first time, I don't think you're retarted, I just don't think people understand me when I speak sometimes. My bad? Check their site, I'm so freakin pumpeddddd.

Hip-Hop goes 80's?

Does that make sense?

>>Lately, I've noticed a trend in the hip-hop scene that both bothers and intrigues me. Actually, I noticed it a while ago but it's becoming more frequent as the years go by. Various Hip-Hop artists are coming out with singles that basically take over the radio for weeks at a time because they're so damn catchy. All of the radio/MTV addicts become obsessed with the song, and then you realize it's EVERYWHERE. But what they don't always tell you is that they're basing these songs on those from the eighties. A few years ago ( in '06 I believe ), Rihanna came out with the song "SOS". I personally love that song, but from the first few notes I realized that it was oddly familiar, even the first time I heard it. As it played I realized the beat was from one of my favorite songs from the 80s, "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell. Rihanna acknowledged that she based her song off of that one, so I was okay with it.. & it didn't hurt that I liked her song too. Recently, Flo Rida came out with "Right Round", which is ever so slightly reminiscent of "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)" by Dead or Alive. Even though it came out in '85, it has been covered several times over the years. Flo Rida didn't cover it so much as sample it fer the chorus of his song and as an influence of the beat. He changed the chorus to better "fit the times" I guess, but it's pretty different. I like his version, but not in comparison to the original.

>>After that discovery, I figured I'd look for some more new music. I found Boys Will Be Boys via MySpace, and I'm really feeling their sound. "Make This Count remix" actually sort of reminds me of Forever The Sickest Kids (sound wise, and because they reference someone named 'Haley'. Coincidence?), which is kind of a big deal in my book. The song has an acoustic flare enhanced by killer vocals & an awesome beat that makes you want to listen to it all the time. "That's Whats Up" is a great song; It's really upbeat and just fun overall. Now that I'm hearing all of their songs, the band really does sound similar to FTSK (Can you tell they're on my mind?!). Based on the music, and the name, the guys seem like they'd be really fun to hang out with. If you're anywhere near here, unlike myself :[, you can see then at the Jammin Java in Vienna, VA on February 13 & 14. Check their MySpace page for more info. By the way, the band is from Virginia, and their 'headline' on MySpace reads "7OH!3" <3333 style="font-weight: bold;">3OH!3, so I really do appreciate that. Remind me to talk to these boys one day soon. Go look 'em up!

>>Shutup And Dance; More than just a command, it's also a band! (And yes, I hate how that rhymed.) I just put on the first song on their music player, "J E A L O U S", and I seriously got chills when it hit the chorus. It shouldn't be all that surprising seeing how fond I am of mixed vocals (a girl&guy whose voices really sounfd great together.) "Let This Be A Lesson" is pretty great too, having an almost techno undertone I'm fairly crazy about. "I Am Free" is mad chill, and it's a great complement to how I'm feeling right now.

>>I've lost my sense of focus. Surprise, surprise. But remember that 'fan page' I mentioned making on Facebook? Well, I've got 20 fans .. and I think that's pretty damn pathetic. Name Dropping 101 ; A Rocket To The Moon

>>I realized that I never did a formal post about Rocket, and that really bothered me. So, here goes nothing I guess.

>Pretty much anyone who knows me is aware of my obsession with A Rocket to The Moon, a band I found in May of 2008. Unfortunately, few people are familiar with their music, only having heard of them through my rambling on and on about them anyway. The band is fronted by Nick Santino, who is probably one of the most talented people I’ve come across in a long time. His lyrics are genuine, and you seriously can’t help but smile when you hear his voice. If you’re a guy reading this, you’re probably thinking something along the lines of, “Yeah okay, nice try.” But I know from experience that even if you think A Rocket To The Moon sounds lame, or something idiotic like that, Even if you’re determined to not like the music, you won’t be able to help yourself. His music has evolved over the years, and it just keeps getting better. When I first heard Rocket, it was live at the Bamboozle Festival on May 3^rd of 08. I had never heard of them before, but I immediately fell in love with their sound. The songs I first heard were from the Summer 07 EP, currently available on iTunes. This EP shows the acoustic side of Rocket mixed with a slightly electronic vibe that just makes the whole thing fall into place. If you’re planning on looking into it, I would suggest “Fear of Flying”, “Not A Second To Waste”, “I Think About You Everyday”, and “Are You Catching My Drift Yet?”. The first two are wholly acoustic, and the second two have those little extra effects that enhance the songs.

Sensing my desire for new music, Rocket released the Greetings From… EP in October of 08. I bought it when I saw them live again that month (11 days after the release), and that’s when I actually met Nick. He is so much fun to be around, and he lives life to the fullest. He’s really a genuinely amazing person, and it shows in his music. The newer stuff is much different than anything before it, but it still has those Rocket qualities I love, meaning it’s still incredible. The songs have more of a studio-quality sound, AKA they’re more refined and it’s not just Nick on the tracks. Essentially, Greetings From… makes them sound like a real band, which they really have been from the start. My favorites from this EP, as hard as it is to choose, would have to be “If Only They Knew”, “Dakota”, and “Just Another One.” Also, they re-did “Fear of Flying” from the Summer 07 EP, and it’s just as amazing as the original. I don’t think I can say that one version is better than the other, so you be the judge on that one. Over the years, A Rocket To The Moon has been described as ‘Powerpop’, ‘Electronica’, and the like, but personally I would just go with incredibly addicting. Don’t take my word for it, go look them up. You won’t be disappointed; Nobody I’ve recommended them to has been so far.
