Seen It Live: Recent Shows

I've been to a few shows lately:

  • July 18th: W A R P E D ! T O U R @ Nassau Coliseum
  • July 21st: The Cab, A Rocket To The Moon, The Summer Set, Eye Alaska, My Favorite Highway @ The Crazy Donkey>>I got there a little late and missed the very beginning of My Favorite Highway's set, but luckily I only missed a song. This was the first time I'd ever seen them live, and they were just amazing. I loved how when they performed "Bigger Than Love", the crowd got really into it."Say So" is so catchy everyone was moving around & having fun. >>Eye Alaska played next, and to be honest I wasn't really focused on their set. They didn't really catch my attention until they played "Walk Like A Gentleman", the only song by them I'd heard before. They seemed pretty good, but I'd suggest looking them up on MySpace or something to see for yourselves. >>Like a lot of bands I've fallen in love with lately, The Summer Set was a group I'd heard OF, I'd just never heard anything BY them. They grabbed my attention from the start, and everyone was really into their set. I don't remember which specific songs they played, considering I'm still not really familiar with them haha, but I know they played "Chelsea" & a hardcore cover of "Love In This Club." Just another reason they're so awesome ahahah. OH, did I mention their drummer is a girl?! Super badass. I met Jess (drums) & Brian (vocals) after they played, they're both really nice & fun to be around. By talking to Brian, and getting a picture with him, I kind of started a mini-mob.. so um, sorry about that... Anyway, I bought their ...In Color EP, and I highly suggest you do the same :] >>And of course, I only went to this concert to see A Rocket To The Moon <3 style="font-weight: bold;">Greetings From.. EP, and a new song that I didn't catch the name of :\ Apparently they've been playing it on this tour, and on Warped too. I had to leave before I could see them after the show :[ Next time boys, next time. >>The Cab was also ridiculously good. They played some of my favorites, like "Risky Business", "High Hopes in Velvet Ropes", "Take My Hand", "That 70's Song", and more. I had to leave while they were playing "One of Those Nights" :\ At least this wasn't the first time I'd seen them live. While we're talking about The Cab, check out their video for the "Take My Hand" remix from the Lady Luck EP, featuring Cassadee Pope of Hey Monday!
  • Take My Hand (Remix)

All of these were amazing, especially the last two because
concerts in the rain are always insane <3>

I Want Your Opinion: W A R P E D ! 0 9

I love typing it like that :D

>>I sent out a fan update (facebook), posted notes (fb) & MySpace bulletins galore, but I've only gotten 2 responses so far..
Read this, and be a part of my Warped Tour Review!

>So assuming some of you look at/read the site regularly, you'll know that when I do concert reviews it's usually just from my point of view, my opinion, etc. Well, I had an idea. Since the Vans Warped Tour is more than just a standard show, I figured I'd try something different- getting you guys involved! It's simple, really.

>If you attended Warped Tour on Saturday, July 18th in Uniondale NY & want to participate, all you have to do is write a response saying things like who you saw, if you met any bands, who was really good/bad, if you've been to warped before, how you like the atmosphere, just general stuff like that. You could write anywhere from a sentence to a paragraph, whatever you want to say! You can send it to me as a message on MySpace, post it to the Facebook page, send it as an email*, or you could post it on the wall for this page. What I'll do is take some of these responses and quote them in my post, and yes I can use specific names.. unless you'd prefer me not to. It's whatever works for you guys. Also, if you know anyone else who went that day, tell them about this response idea.

>For those of you who attended warped, but on another date, you can do the same thing, just specify which date you went to & where it was so I can compare experiences & such.

>I'd like to start my review soon, but send me your responses whenever you can; I'm in no rush :] Any other ideas you guys might have would be just super as well.

If this turns out well, I'll think about doing more like this in the future.
Thanksabunch guys :D

Name Dropping 101 ; Part 21

  1. I've recently become addicted to Make It or Break It, that new gymnastics show on ABC Family.. don't judge me, it's really good. Anyway, in last week's episode, my favorite character, Razor, was revealed to be in a band. So they start playing AND IT'S AMAZING. Obviously that wasn't really the actors rocking out, although I wish I was. So I looked up the show through ABCfamily.com, and BOOM they have a music guide, showing every song they play in each episode. The song played during the episode? The Last Summer by The Forward. I think I'm in love, no joke. Check them out on MySpace + iTunes!
  2. Vegas Baby has posted the Miss Envy EP on their MySpace. It's pretty different than a lot of the stuff I've been hearing lately. Go check it out, and make sure to tell them how much you love it.
  3. The Maine's deluxe edition of Can't Stop Won't Stop came out today. Consisting of 15 songs (including a Def Leppard Cover!), 2 music videos, & 1 half hour documentary, this disc is amazing. Also, apparently there are some slashed prices on The Maine merchandise, via GoMerch. SCORE.
  4. I'm going to Warped on Saturday. So not only should you expect a kickass review of the bands I see that day, and pics&vids from different sets [probably to be uploaded to the Facebook page], but you can also get ready for pictures featuring me+the various amounts of bands I shall meet. Yeah, I'm pretty stoked. July 18th.
  5. Push Play's single Midnight Romeo is now available on iTunes. It's actually really good, go get it!

Album Review: "Nothing Personal" by All Time Low

It officially comes out tomorrow, but I've been listening to it all weekend.

>>So, let's be honest here: I thought this record was going to suck it hard. Mostly everyone else, both All Time Low fans and haters, were saying that it was going to be that over-produced, sugary upbeat pop that the radios assault us with. So when I got it, obviously I still wanted it, but I was prepared for a big disappointment. After listening to it once or twice, I realized it was actually really good, it just took some getting used to. It's different than their other records, but Nothing Personal is definitely not their an time low ;]
>Before they announced the name of the album, the members of ATL got into a bit of a "nothing personal" war on Twitter. They would insult eachother, then end the tweet with "nothing personal." This war eventually encompassed members of Every Avenue, Vinny Vegas, and even Mark Hoppus. This was a great promotion technique, and sparked a dramatic increase in the usage of the phrase.

>>It starts out with "Weightless", the first single. The first time I heard this song, I was obsessed with it. The beginning is kind of deceiving though. You get ready for a really pop-y song, but it's actually a lot deeper than that. I'm in love with the lyrics, and I absolutely adore the video. Glamour Kills, Vinny Vegas, Twitter references, & MARK HOPPUS For The Win! <3
"Weightless"

>>The chorus is the highpoint of "Break Your Little Heart", but it's really upbeat all the way through. The second single, "Damned If I Do Ya (Damned If I Dont)", is pretty damn catchy. If you listen to it and somehow manage to not get the chorus stuck in your head at least once, you are my hero. "Lost In Stereo" is one of my Top 4 from this album, but "Stella" is my favorite <3 style="font-weight: bold;">Glamour Kills Studio Blog of ATL recording the gang vocals & the record itself only add to the appeal. "Sick Little Games" is fairly mellow, but far from boring. It's got a really sweet sound to it. "Hello Brooklyn" has a beat that makes you want to move. According to its lyrics, "Everybody knows there's a party at the end of the world." "Walls" is less "let's party!" and more "let's express great emotion in an almost powerpop form!" It's the perfect song to have between "Hello Brooklyn" and "Too Much", the flow is great. "Too Much" states that "too much of anything is too much".. Did anyone else notice how that contradicts another one of ATL's songs, "Holly (Would You Turn Me On)", which states that "too much of you is never enough."? Just shows how they're maturing as people, as a band, and lyrically. "Keep The Change, You Filthy Animal" stands out because it has a sick breakdown around 1:58 into it. "A Party Song (The Walk of Shame)" & "Therapy" are the other 2 songs that make up my Top 4. "A Party Song" is just badass; the name is perfect, and this was another song that I got to see being recorded via the GK Studio Blog. Just another reason to love GK :D "Therapy" almost explodes with emotion; It is truly an amazing song that obviously came from the heart. The lyrics are quite personal, and the song itself is one that you can listen to for days.

>>Overall, this record is more 'pop' than the others All Time Low has come out with. But just like their previous releases, each song ends, leaving you wanting more. They have those tracks that you know will become classics. Although I've grown to absolutely adore this record, I will say I prefer So Wrong, It's Right. That's one of my all time favorites, but Nothing Personal was definitely up to ATL's usual standards.
