New Music Video: "Celestial Fires" by Night Verses


>> NY/CA based Night Verses just released a music video for "Celestial Fires," a track from the band's 2013 album Lift Your Existence.  This band is one of my favorites to see live, and the intensity and raw energy of their stage presence definitely comes through in this video.  If you need something equally heavy and melodic, this song is for you.

Bellwether to release 'After Reflection' on February 18th

 


>>  Long Island based Bellwether are proud to announce the release of After Reflection, the band's first acoustic EP.  The 5-song EP will be released on February 18th and will feature 3 tracks from But I Have To..., a new song, and a special cover song.  The EP will be streaming in full on PropertyofZack.com starting tomorrow (2/11/14).  




>> This will be Bellwether's first release since 2013's But I Have To..., which was produced by Vinnie Caruana and Brett "Ratt" Romnes from I Am The Avalanche.  To celebrate, Bellwether will be playing an album release show on March 1st at The Wood Shop in Copaigue, NY. More info on the release show can be seen below.  The band also will be performing at Today's Mixtape Festival on March 29th, so you have plenty of time to learn the words.

Bayside Announces The Great American Cult Tour

>> Long time fans of the band Bayside will know that the fan base is often referred to as a cult.  The band has released merch with "cult" on it, people have had Bayside logos and the word "cult" tattooed - this is a thing that's been going on for years.  So, after years of releasing killer punk/rock albums, Bayside it at it again with Cult.

>> As previously announced, Bayside will be releasing their sixth studio album, titled Cult, on February 18th through Hopeless Records.  Can't wait that long? The band just put out a lyric video for "Time Has Come," a single from the new album, which you can watch above.  In addition, you can download "Time Has Come" here, as well as the band's single "Pigsty" here.





>> To further instill the feeling of being part of something bigger (like, I don't know, a cult), Bayside is taking this show on the road.  The band will head out on The Great American Cult Tour starting in March with Four Year Strong, Daylight, and Mixtapes along for support. podSessions at CMJ featuring NGHBRS

>> What usually comes to mind when you think of home? For The Music Obsession, home is where the music is. For some people, that may mean venues from the Vibe Lounge to Madison Square Garden. For others, maybe it’s an old guitar or a dusty drum kit. For us at podSessions, it's our friendly NGHBRhood... NGHBRS.



>> Though I just recently delved into their work, I felt an immediate connection with this band when I got the chance to sit down with them for a few minutes at the CMJ Festival. With all of them no more than 15 minutes from my house and making their tunes in my humble hometown of Hicksville, we had no shortage of conversation.

>> I'll admit: I felt a little intimidated as they stepped out from their interview with Fuse (that's right, as in the major television network). It was at that point I remembered these guys were covered by the Wall Street Journal. Here I am, one episode deep into a podcast, and I'm going to interview these guys? At that point, I had a mini-crisis and realized that all the questions had probably already been asked. But Fuse, the Wall Street Journal, Wolf Blitzer, Howard Stern, and any other media official might not have one thing that I do:

>> The guys in NGHBRS, like Billy Joel, are from my own backyard - climbing their way to the top and never compromising their attitudes in the process.

Patent Pending Release Video for "Let Go"

>> Patent Pending are at it again, and this time they're at it with a silly style only they can get away with.  The band just released a video for their single "Let Go." The song is on their latest album, titled Brighter.  The album was funded through Pledge Music and is hopefully just what the fans were looking for.  Personally, I've known these guys for years, and this album is full of jams.  Check out the new extravagant and entertaining video below.

For Our Friend Mitch

>> Two years ago, my friends in Bellwether and No Good News released a split titled For Our Friend Mitch.  They decided to release this on behalf of their friend Mitchell Kraeling who had been diagnosed with cancer.  All of the proceeds from the split went straight to Mitch and his family to help with medical bills.  Mitch was one of the strongest and most determined people many of us have ever encountered.  He was the kind of guy who, even during his chemo treatments, would make it out to a show to support his friends.  No matter what, his friends and family came first.  So when the diagnosis came, it only made sense that his friends were there for him, too.

>> Today, October 11th, 2013, Mitch passed away.  Bellwether, No Good News, and Meadowbrook Records are re-releasing the For Our Friend Mitch split in the hopes of helping Mitch's family with funeral costs.  It's a final way to support a guy who did everything he could to support his friends and his local music scene.  You can download the split at bandcamp, or below.

Today, October 11th, 2013, the Long Island Music Scene lost one of its finest. Mitch Kraeling was always enthusiastic about local music, attending shows frequently and hosting shows in his basement.
When Mitch was first diagnosed with cancer, we promptly put out this split to help raise money for him and his family to pay for the cost of treatment. We are re-releasing it today to help with the costs of funeral services. It is up for a "name your own price." Please give as little or as much as you can. Every bit helps.
He gave us so much more than we could have asked for in a friend and he will truly be missed. Now its time for us to give something back.

NGHBRS Release Instagram-based Video for "Hold Up Girl"

>> There's a reason that I write about NGHBRS as often as I do.  Personally, I'm drawn to acts that have true drive and who constantly think outside of the box.  NGHBRS have both the passion and the determination to do different things that will catch your attention, and they've done just that once again with their new music video.  The band just released their video for "Hold Up Girl," a track from their album Twenty One Rooms.  This video is completely done through Instagram.  It's high quality, unique, and overall really innovative.

>> It's one thing to keep fans in the loop with updates on social networking sites, but this video is something else - this band is clearly in touch with their audience and what's "in" right now.  This video is really creative, and the best part is that all of the clips are actually on Instagram.  If you make note of the usernames in the video, you can look up the clips used in the video on Instagram.  So not only is this just an awesome idea, but it's also something that you can feel like you're a part of just by having access to its mode of creation.  In addition, the band shared parts of their process with The Wall Street Journal here.  Well done, guys. Well done.

Taking Back Sunday Perform New Song at Acoustic Show on LI

>> Last night (8/29/13), Taking Back Sunday performed a semi-secret acoustic set at The Leaky Lifeboat Inn in Seaford, NY.  It was semi-secret because following a day of hinting at a potential show via twitter and instagram, vocalist Adam Lazzara officially announced the show yesterday afternoon.  The band, or at least Adam and bandmate John Nolan, were initially slated to perform for an hour.  Due to the overwhelming demand, a second set was added immediately following the first.  During one of these two "surprise" acoustic sets, the band performed a new song live for some lucky fans.  The track is tentatively called "The Bird You Cannot Change" but based on the video, it looks like that title isn't definite.  Either way, it's worth a watch.  Check out Mike Fishkin's video of the performance below.

Interview: Desmond Zantua of Bellwether

>> Bellwether have been making a name for themselves in the Long Island music scene ever since they released their first song back in 2010.  That first song sparked a different way of thinking, and it paved the way for a lot of what I've seen in the local pop punk scene recently.  The band's line up and style have changed gradually since 2010, but one thing has remained the same - this band won't quit.  Everything they put out is full of raw energy, passion, and has an attitude that is all its own. 


>> I recently spoke with the band's vocalist, Desmond Zantua, after their set at With The Punches' last Long Island show at The Wood Shop.  We talked about wrestling, acoustic stuff, jumping through walls, touring, secrets, the New York Islanders, and some other cool and totally relevant things.

NGHBRS Announce Full Length Album, Release Current Music Collection

>> NGHBRS announced their upcoming full-length album, titled Twenty One Rooms, will be released early this summer.  In anticipation of this release, the band has made their entire music collection available for "pay what you want" on bandcamp.
