Seen It Live: 10/25/08

One of the most amazing nights I've ever had.

>>The concert was phenomenal, and the people I met were so nice. The bands that played were, in order: Stereo Skyline, Mercy Mercedes, The Urgency, Single File, A ROCKET TO THE MOON, and A Cursive Memory. I seriously filled the memory on my camera .. [Fortunately, I uploaded all of the old ones onto my comp beforehand.] Everyone was so great, and they got the audience involved. I went with 2 of my closest friends, and we met up with 2 really fun guys. It was a an incredible time.

>>Stereo Skyline was first, and of course, none of us knew they were going to be there. We got there early enough that we had a good spot to watch them. I got great pictures of their performance, and with them after their set, specifically Kevin (lead singer / guitar) & Brian (guitar). I had heard of the band before, but I wasn't actually familiar with any of their songs. I remember them at least playing "Fivetens in Harlem", "Heartbeat", & "Uptown Get Around". They were all so great, I don't think I can pick a favorite like I usually do. I think, if it was possible to choose, I'd prob go with "Fivetens in Harlem". [By the way, I got a good portion of that song on video!] Their sound is so adorable, and you pretty much can't help but dance when you hear it, especially when it's live. Unsurprisingly, they got the crowd going.

>>Mercy Mercedes came next, and again, I really only knew one of their songs ["Shiver Me Timbers"] They were amazing. Their stage presence was phenomenal, & I'm absolutely willing to sound like the loser I am just to say it. They moved around a lot, switching spots (etc) which helped me get lots of great pictures. To be honest, I probably got more pictures of Matt than anyone else. Him & Nate. Before I talk about their performance any more, let me tell you to go watch the Tour Updates on their MySpace. They're absolutely hysterical, & they show you what I mean when I say they're super fun :D The first Tour Update video is from September. Oh, & in Tour Update 2: At about 2:38 they show a clip from THE CONCERT I WENT TO! In case you were wondering where that was from. Also, they have a great taste in candy. GO WATCH! Anyway, I'm absolutely in love with their music. End of story. Out of all the bands that played that night, Mercy Mercedes [& obv. A Rocket To The Moon too <3] were, by far, my favorites. They played "The Perfect Scene", "Shiver Me Timbers", "Revolution", and more. All amazing, all incredibly played. I met all of the guys, and I had them sign my poster. Also, I bought their CD 1.21 Gigawatts & a shirt that makes me happy. Essentially, they're amazing musically & personality - wise. Go check them out :D

>>To be completely honest, I wasn't exactly "paying attention" to The Urgency, or Single File when they were playing. Which I feel really bad about now. Instead, my friends & I were watching the New Jersey Devils [Hockey] game for some reason? I don't really know why, but we caught Marty Brodeur making the sickest save I've ever seen and .. ANYWAY, they sounded pretty good :D So I checked for their MySpaces because I wanted to know what I mainly missed out on.

..& now I have to do stuff, other than this. Ughstahhss. I'll finish as soon as I cannnnnnnnnnnnnnnn, & preferibly sometime before the next concert. <3

Name Dropping 101: Alexz Johnson, Goot, & more

>>Remember how I was talking about Alexz Johnson & Tyler Kyte a while back? Well, in case you don't remember, I mentioned how they were on the show Instant Star together. Another very talented singer, Cory Lee, was also on that show [she played Karma]. I love her voice. "No Shoes No Shirt" is probably my favorite song by her that isn't from the show. It's got an upbeat sound with a killer beat. It's a really fun song to listen to. From the show, I'm obsessed with "Ghost of Mine". It's more of a techno - y song, but in a really good way. It's a song that gets stuck in your head, but that isn't a bad thing in this case. She's got an amazing voice, and she can act. Amazing much? Check out her songs on her MySpace, or her acting skills on Instant Star. Either way, I'm sure you'll be impressed.

>>I Love Goot. End of Story. Goot is actually Alex Goot, and his voice / lyrics combo makes me smile bright. Yeah, it takes a lot to make me talk this strangely. "Geo" is an amazing song. It's so soft, and you can just feel the emotion when you listen to it; It pulls at your heartstrings [sound-wise, & lyrically]. Check this out:
"For the longest time, i believed you were right. I would live my life, with a logical mind. When i reach my goals, i dont wanna be stuck. I'm thinking about success and what it's supposed to be next. I'd love to learn what i should do, to be as happy as you."

Seriously; He's amazinggggggg. His cover of "Everytime We Touch" is incredible. It's soft, and piano filled :] It's performed so well, it almost makes you want to cry. Well, maybe that's just me. But seriously, it's beautiful. His other cover, "Amazed" is just as incredible. On the other side of the song spectrum is "Scared." Unlike the title, it's happy and uplifting. Both the song and its lyrics are exceedingly adorable. Don't believe me? Read this. Try not to love it [and him for writing it].
"So maybe i could make you need me; maybe we’ll just have to find out. Don’t hate me for the way i’m feeling; you know i know we know i’m feeling so scared, you know it"
Oh, you couldn't bring yourself to not love it? I so called that. If you love music by The Rocket Summer [ also a "one-person-with-a-band-name" ], then I'm sure you'll absolutely adore Goot like I do. Go check out his MySpace, and the page just for his covers.

What I'm Listening To #3

Songs, artists, and a playlist. Oh boy.

>>Simply in an attempt to add more songs to the list, which I did, I ended up making a new playlist on MySpace, and finding a lot of really good songs by artists such as Circa Survive and Goot. I don't really have time for a legit post, or to add links like I usually do. So here's the playlist I just made. ENJOYY :]
  1. Pretty Buildings - People in Planes
  2. Travel Hymn - Circa Survive
  3. So Much Love - The Rocket Summer
  4. OK - Lansdowne
  5. Sick Hearts - The Used
  6. I Want It That Way (Cover) - Goot
  7. Shiver Me Timbers - Mercy Mercedes
  8. Away, Away - Push Play
  9. The Difference Between Medicine and Poison Is In The Dose - Circa Survive
  10. Lovebug - Jonas Brothers :]
Tell me which ones you love the most.

Name Dropping 101 ; Part 12

>>The Fastest Kid Alive makes me smile. A lot. Just so you know, they have a blog of their own, too. [Check it here.] Starting off the playlist on their MySpace is "Singin Along", and if you don't love it, there might be something wrong with your hearing. It's got such a good sound, that I can't help but sing along. Go listen to the song so you can't judge me :] I'm also pretty obsessed with "Summer Forever". It's the second of four amazing songs, including "Shorelines" and "Dance With A Match". They're really good, with an upbeat - yet - punky sound that I'm loving. Check them out. You won't regret it. I promise.

>>I saw Van Atta High at Bamboozle in May [Check their performance there, HERE], and I thought they were great. Whoever got that video it totally my hero, by the way... Even though you can't really hear them play; but I wish I'd gotten that close :[ Unfortunately, my computer's being its retarded self, and isn't loading the music player on their MySpace. Good news, however, is the fact that the band has a YouTube account that my comp has no problem playing. Yay YouTube! So I'm watching their "Call Me Jersey" video & I find myself smiling st the simplicity. The guys are just playing, on a tennis court. It's awesome. The people with the signs are pretty great too; I just wish they'd held each up a bit longer so that I could read them better .. "In Purgatory, Playin Defense" [YouTube; @ Bamboozle] was also good, but they had some screaming. It wasn't enough to taint the entire song, though. So basically:: They're amazing, and I'm in love with the vocals.

>>The Great Valley :: Have I written about them before? I don't think I have, but their MySpace is so familiar to me .. Maybe because I play their music all the time? Haha, that's probably it. Seriously, when I'm bored or just on the computer, I'll bring up their MySpace & just listen to their songs over & over again. It's not weird ; they're just really nice to listen to .. So anyway, I love their demo, "Mountains". It's really really great. The song has that chilled - out sound to it, making it quite adorable. "I Can Pretend Too" has been in the top 10 on my "Top 25 Most Played" songs playlist on my iPod for a long time now, because it's awesome. It's cloearly my favorite song by them, and I don't think that's going to change any time soon .. depending on when they release their CD, of course. By the way, "ICPT" and 2 other songs, "Small Towns Breed Big Mouths" & "Lost Without You", are free downloads! I've already taken advantage. Have you!? If not, get to downloadinggg !
”add

>>I've added a bunch of new songs on the list towards the bottom of the screen, and I'll be adding more after this post. Even if there isn't a new post, I've probably added more songs. So check the list periodically, then listen to the songs, and tell me what you think! I haven't been getting much feedback lately, and it's kind of bumming me out. People really do read this, right? If you're reading this now, LET me know! Haha, but seriously, tell me what you're thinking in a comment on the site, or on my MySpace. Either way is fine for me :]

>>Do me a favor and check out Cavashawn, and tell them I sent you :] They've got a good sound, and they're awesome people to talk to.
